MAJOR DISCONNECT According to a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration review of U.S. motorists, three-quarters of those surveyed indicated that they rarely consider traffic conditions when deciding to answer their Cell Phones (or text) while driving. Yet, onethird of these same drivers said that they would feel unsafe if they were passengers in Automobiles being driven by cell-phoning or texting drivers. This disconnected thinking is but one of the many contradictions that underlie drivers’ continued willingness to drive while distracted. As studies continue to show that both talking on Cell Phones and texting compromise safety, drivers continue to talk and text. Is any phone call or text so important that it can’t be missed while driving? Technology has changed how and when we communicate. The best way to avoid a car accident, however, remains the same: Avoid any distractions while driving and observe speed limits and traffic signs. At HUNTER Insurance, INC., we encourage readers to put their Cell Phones away or shut them off while they drive. If you have questions about Auto Insurance, please call us at 769-9500.
